A Bar of Frenemies Playing Musical Chairs…A BAD Combination…

On Friday night, I ventured into my bar town, I call home, alone. CJ had to work Saturday morning and was just exhausted from his week so he didn’t come join me. I was totally cool w/ it because sometimes guys just need a night in to play some video games, relax and veg out in pajama pants. I met up w/ my friend Zoe and decided to follow her on her night’s adventures.

I think this was one of the most awkward nights of my life. I’ll explain…

Zoe is in a lot of groups but there is one such group that is basically seems like they play Musical Chairs w/ their friends & enemies and past girlfriends/boyfriends. I have always been a date one guy in the group and that is it type of girl. I have refused to be passed on from guy to jerk to guy. I chose to remain in these groups as a special guest star who pops in every once in a blue moon, but yeah no Joey, Pacey, Dawson, Pacey…Zack, Kelly, Slater, Zack. Anywho…

This bar was crawling w/ exes of everyone in this group and some how there is this odd balance of hate & love that is just accepted. Fucking weird. Zoe herself dated Scott, left the group, came back into the group dated Rob, and now that they are broken up she still lingers in the group I guess waiting for the next one to snatch her up or one of them to come back to her. At some point on Friday Scott will be talking to her for a minute then she will go to her left and talk to Rob and then switch to the next new guy of the night. They just turn their heads and go back to whomever they are talking to like nothing ever happened. Scott himself, dated Zoe, tried to date me I said no, dated Fiona, dated Nicole, and is now dating Veronica who all are in this small bar at one time like it is nothing out of the ordinary…

Funnily tho, Fiona who is not in the core group will shoot him dirty looks every now & again…I guess out of the group the insanity is not as harmoniously perceived.

Now Nicole, who previously dated Scott, who also dated AJ, is now dating Chris and once again they are ALL in this bar buying each other drinks like NOTHING has ever happened. Scott has described this Nicole as the woman who ruined his life but he still will pass by her say hi and not even blink twice. Perhaps it’s the alcohol that has woven a perfect spell of rose-colored glasses for these people, or the bar has an amnesia cloak it bestows on all its patrons. I’m apparently immune to these mind-erasing devices and the drama was too much for me.

I can’t mentally wrap my head around this group of people. It could have just been me but I swear I would see only a half of a smile here or there or a head tilt forward so a lil darkness was seen in one or the other’s eyes, or as a back was turned someone would chug a drink and quickly order a replacement and place a tricky mask on his/hers’ faces.  I left them to their masquerade and went home.

I should have rented “Breaking Dawn” or something else. That group is going to explode one day and I don’t want to be there for the fireworks. Yeeshhh….

Could you ever be in a group like that one? Or would you leave like Me? I would love to hear…

  2. When my ex told me last month he was already seeing someone else, I wanted to die. If I picture me in a group when he is there with whoever SHE is and acting like it was normal??? I'm sorry, that is the most disfunctional thing I have ever heard. But then you obviously agree on that! :-)
